Letter from the Guest Editor
Article Outline
We were delighted to be asked again to contribute to Seminars in Ultrasound CT and MRI by Joel Swartz following our previous contribution in December 2006 that focused on salivary imaging.
The contents of this current issue were borne out of scientific presentations at the Radiological Society of North America between 2004 and 2006. Again I am deeply indebted to my friend and colleague, Gitta Madani, who has taken the lead on three of the four articles despite the concurrent pressures of a busy clinical workload and a young family. I am also indebted to my surgical colleague, Professor Valerie Lund, well known in the field of sinonasal surgery, whose advice and friendship over the years has been a great support.
This issue consists of four articles. A conventional approach has been used, focusing on anatomy, inflammatory disorders, and tumors. We have tried to emphasize those areas of clinical relevance to the radiologist (and surgeon) in each of the articles, in particular, any new ways of assessing the sinonasal region that have developed in the past few years.
The last article is on differential diagnosis in sinonasal imaging that I hope will bring together the points raised in the three earlier articles. As always, anatomy is the key, even more so with contemporary high-resolution imaging and multiplanar and 3D reformatted images that are now routinely available.
We hope that you will find this issue both interesting and instructive.
