Letter from the Editor
Article Outline
On one of my recent yearly pilgrimages to Chicago for the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) meeting, I had the opportunity to examine a scientific exhibit created by our guest editor, Timothy Beale and Gitta Madani. This project was devoted exclusively to the salivary glands. I was very impressed with the quality of this production including the writing and the image detail. It was obvious that the authors had developed a considerable breadth and depth of knowledge on this subject matter. As we have not recently had the opportunity to focus an issue of Seminars on this subject, I contacted the authors to ask if they would be so kind as to retool this information in print form. I was delighted when they agreed and this issue was born.
This issue consists of five chapters. The editors decided that the conventional approach was best and as such produced manuscripts focusing on anatomy, inflammatory disease and tumors. Jackie E. Brown has contributed a beautifully illustrated article on interventional procedures. The lacrimal gland is often overlooked during discussions of the salivary glands but is covered in this issue by Gaenor K. Hughes and Katherine A. Miszkiel. They emphasize that these paired structures should be considered minor salivary glands both developmentally and histologically. I am sure that all of you will agree that the authors have done a wonderful job and are to be congratulated for their contributions.
I am contacted from time to time by prospective authors who wish to contribute to our journal. I have been encouraging this for a number of years and it seems to be paying off for our editors, our authors and our readership. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with issue ideas.
